Since 1993, the International Karstological School “Classical Karst” (IKS) has been organized annually, covering many aspects related to karst research. The basic idea of the event is to present the state-of-the-art of the annually selected topic and to promote discussion between participants via a set of invited and topic-related lectures, a poster session and field trips to the Slovenian Classical Karst area.
The 29th International Karstological School will be dedicated to speleological research. Speleology is an extremely broad field that combines research on caves and in caves. Although we have already discussed various aspects of speleology in some past schools, the topic is always relevant due to the liveliness of research, many new methods and concepts. Last but not least, the celebration also honors the past International Year of Karst and Caves.
Participants will discuss speleogenesis, cave sediment research, physical speleology, geological and geomorphological development, hydrological aspects of caves and cave life. Presentations of regional research, new methodological approaches and theoretical concepts in speleology are welcome.
The International Year of Caves and Karst 2021 is prolonged in the year of 2022, therefore also this conference will follow the motto: “Explore, Understand, Protect”.
