24th Scientific Speleological Days – 24ème Journées de Spéléologie Scientifique
Given the context of health restrictions due to the pandemic, the Saturday lectures day has been canceled. It could have been done with a small audience but we did not want to frustrate those who could not participate.
It is replaced by the excursion which is split over the two days. It is therefore the same excursion which will take place twice. It is free but no meals or accommodation are provided by the organization of the JSS. All the information is on the page: https://sites.google.com/view/jss2/excursion
The conference on archaeological research at the Han Caves is postponed to 2021.
Each year for almost 25 years now enthusiastic cavers meet for the scientific aspects of speleology in Han-sur-Lesse, Belgium for a weekend of meetings, presentations and discussions.
The scientific meeting is mainly dedicated to Belgian karst and neighboring regions, as well as to the Belgian achievements abroad. The meeting is accessible for all and is intended to be an opportunity for cavers, scientists or merely curious to inquire or submit new observations or discoveries.
On Saturday there are a lot of interesting conferences, like the guest speaker Christophe Delaere from the Center for Research in Archeology and Heritage of the Free University of Brussels. The conference proposes to illustrate the recent archaeological work carried out in the Lesse river at the resurgence of the Caves of Han by presenting the ancient human activities in relation to the transformations of the natural and karstic landscape.
And on Sunday there is an excursion that will take place at the Fond des Vaux in Marche-en-Famenne under the leadership of Luis Alvarez, Yves Quinif and Serge Delaby.
